Historical Tracks:

The Telecom Track: Part of Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s 1980s Telecom rollout, this track was ploughed through the bush by a D6 bulldozer to service a Juvenile Offenders camp which no longer operates. The forest is dry sclerophyll dominated by eucalyptus of Ironbark, spotted gum, and grey gum with an understorey of Dogwood. Walk past Tooloom Gold Mine Camp.

The Wheelbarrow Track: Built by early miners to transport gold-bearing ore. Imagine pushing a fully loaded wheelbarrow up and over this cliff edge. 1.5 km downstream, a large gully called Back Creek joins Tooloom Creek. Back Creek still produces gold with each pan that is washed.

The Rose Garden: Home to John Smith and his wife of Aboriginal descent. They eked out a living by prospecting for gold and making herbal remedies to sell to other miners. The remnants of their humpy can still be found beside the track on the next level above the creek. Look for a rose bush, a wisteria vine, and the old footings of the fireplace.

The Garden of Eden: Named after an amazing landscape feature that you will walk past. The Garden of Eden is a large area of rock scree clinging to the side of the mountain with a 40-degree slope. In the center of this rock scree is a patch of rainforest and vine thicket.
